What Can Damage Faux Leather?
Jul 10 , 2024

Faux leather, also known as vegan leather, is a popular material used in many products, from clothing to furniture. It is made of synthetic materials that mimic the look and feel of real leather. Despite its durability and affordability, faux leather can be damaged by certain factors.

Heat

Faux leather is not heat-resistant, so it can be easily damaged by high temperatures. This can happen when you place a hot object, such as a straightener or iron, on your faux leather clothing or furniture. The heat can cause the material to melt or warp, leaving an unsightly mark. To avoid this, make sure to keep hot objects away from your faux leather items.

Sunlight

Sunlight exposure can cause fading or discoloration on faux leather products. This is especially true for items that are placed near windows or in direct sunlight. The UV rays from the sun can break down the material, causing it to become brittle and crack over time. To prevent this, place your items away from direct sunlight or use curtains to filter out the rays.

Water

Faux leather is not water-resistant, so it can be damaged if exposed to water for a long period of time. This can cause the material to swell or stretch, leaving impossible-to-remove stains. To prevent this, make sure to dry your items quickly if they get wet. You can use a towel to absorb excess water or use a fan to speed up the drying process.

Chemicals

Faux leather can be damaged by exposure to harsh chemicals, such as bleach or ammonia. These chemicals can cause discoloration or even dissolve the material. To avoid this, make sure to keep your faux leather items away from chemicals or use a mild cleaner specifically designed for faux leather.
