Material Introduction

Bright shades go first on an outdoor ball. UV light, salt air and sweaty hands attack the pigment from the surface down, and a pink ball that leaves the line vivid comes back chalky and pale. The buyer sees a cheap ball, not a faded one.

Two things control that. The pigment must be light-stable, not just heat-stable, and the top finish must block UV before it reaches the colour layer. Our PU top coat is built in that order: light-stable pigment, then a UV-resistant matte finish over a pebble grain that stays open to the hand.

The base decides how panels behave after stitching. A microfiber nonwoven holds the grain through inflation and sand contact, instead of smoothing out at the seam the way a thin coating on knitted cloth does.

Product Feature and Application

Shade held under UV. The colour layer sits under a UV-resistant finish, and light fastness is tested per order on the shade you approve, not quoted from a catalogue. What you approve is what the next lot matches.

No transfer onto hands or jerseys. Wet crock is what matters on a beach ball: one that marks a white jersey is a complaint, not a sale. Dry and wet rub are tested on the ordered colour and reported.

Grain that grips when wet. The pebble is embossed deep enough to stay open under sand and sweat, shallow enough not to hold water in the valleys.

Applications: beach volleyball, handball, dodgeball, school and club training balls.

Production Details

Coating, embossing, UV finish and inspection run as one line under one lot number. Every roll is gauged at three points across the width, and shade read against the approved swatch under D65 before winding.

Reports travel with the shipment: REACH SVHC, RoHS, ISO 105 colourfastness to light and to rubbing, plus abrasion, flex and adhesion on the construction you order. Quality system ISO 9001 certified; method and acceptance limit are written into the purchase specification.

1. 1. 1. How long will a pink shade hold outdoors? We do not quote years. We quote a light-fastness result on your approved shade, tested to the method you nominate, and a second lot that matches the first. That is the part we control.
      
      Will it mark white jerseys or players' hands when wet? That is wet crock, tested on the ordered colour rather than assumed from the pigment. Bright reds and pinks fail first, so ask for the number before you approve.
      
      Does sand and salt water clog the grain? Open enough to shed sand when wiped. Salt film dulls a matte finish until rinsed; the shade underneath is not affected.
      
      Can you match our brand pink exactly? Yes, from a Pantone number or a physical swatch. The light-stable pigment route can shift a very saturated shade by a step, so approve the lab dip in daylight, not office light.
      
      Which thickness for a size 5 beach volleyball? 1.2 mm: the panel is small and the seam sits close to the valve. Go to 1.4 mm when the ball is machine stitched and the seam needs body.
